About Sarah Reiwitch

Sarah in a field of flowers.

In May 2023, Sarah joined the Koret Shelter Medicine Program as an instructional designer, blending her expertise in online learning and technology with a deep commitment to animal welfare. This role allows her to merge her instructional design skills with her lifelong passion for animals, creating effective and compassionate educational content for the sheltering community. Sarah cherishes this opportunity to deepen her knowledge of animal sheltering and promote humane, community-centered approaches to animal care. Alongside her professional pursuits, she continues to express herself artistically as a songwriter, musician, and dancer.

Background & Education

After earning her BS in Biochemistry with a minor in Philosophy from UC Davis, Sarah began her career in biotech before returning to UC Davis to manage a biology research lab. Here, she cared for and studied fruit fly populations, focusing on their lifespans and mating habits, and authored scientific papers from her research. Driven by her desire to blend her passions for art, science, and education, Sarah ventured into multimedia, website development, and instructional design at the Exploratorium Museum of Science, Art, and Human Perception during the San Francisco Bay Area tech boom. She later served as the Webmaster for the San Francisco Ballet, acquiring more technical skills, and spent years as an instructional designer at the EdTech startup, Smart Sparrow, and UC Berkeley.

Sarah grew up in a small California town, surrounded by her beloved pet rats, cats, dogs, and a pony. From a young age, she demonstrated a deep commitment to animal welfare and a strong interest in nature and science. This love for animals and science initially led her to pursue a career in Biology. However, she eventually found a way to merge all her interests—art, Biology, and education—into a fulfilling career in instructional design at KSMP, where she could make a significant impact on both animal welfare and provide impactful educational content.
